Single player is exciting, and will entertain you for a while. Trust me, for some maps it will take a couple run-throughs to get it right. There are ten missions in all, but there's no doubt that you will play them over again. One last thing, there are two weapons you can only get by completing single-p[ayer a certain way.

I will tell you one. In each level there are 5 hidden flags. To make one appear, just shoot at the space that you thing they are. After a brief aerial battle, she confronts the evil General Scales, who roughs her up and imprisons her in an ancient temple.

A distress beacon goes out to Fox McCloud. These fetch quests might start to grate on your nerves after a while, but you will learn the ins-and-outs of the gameplay while acting like a fuzzy Boy Scout. If you can stick through these middling bits, the game opens up into a full-fledged epic with traditional dungeons and bosses. The controls are a no-brainer for anyone who's played a recent Zelda title. Fox controls just like Link, from the automatic jumping to the lock-on combat.

You can activate items and special moves via a handy C-stick menu, and even map these abilities onto the Y-but-ton. An original gameplay element is Tricky, a sassy dino sidekick who helps Fox solve puzzles see below. Graphically, none of SFA's N64 roots show through.

Impressive special effects like reflective water, lifelike shadows and amazingly realistic fur, show off the best the 'Cube has to offer. The action runs at a speedy clip, only stuttering for one or two seconds when the game loads a new area. Rare had a long time to work on this game, and it definitely shows in the polished graphics. The sound is also up to Nintendo's usual high standards. Music is catchy, vibrant and varied, building into a tense tune when danger's afoot.

Unfortunately, not as much care went into the voices. Fox is great; he's a likable, self-assured hero. They're awfully annoying, and they talk a lot. The PDA in Fox's inventory has been expanded into a more useful item. Selecting it will now open a menu. This allows pausing during cutscenes, though it won't pause their audio.

This patch lets you swap between Fox and Krystal at any time. From the PDA menu, you can turn on an auto-save function. This will save the game whenever you cross a map loading boundary. This setting is saved to the save file. This patch also removes the confirmation prompts from the Save button in the pause menu. Just select the Save option and press A, and the game will be saved immediately.

The camera can be panned, tilted, and rolled using the C stick or another controller. Movement can be inverted on each axis. See below for details. This patch also applies Vague Rant's aspect ratio fixes, so eg the circle in the Fuel Cell Compass is actually a circle.

Several minor improvements have been made: Climbing is now much faster. You can jump down from a wall while climbing. Several voices are removed from the pause menu.

The map box now closes itself when no map is available. Arwing sections can be skipped. Fuel Cells are removed from the inventory menu, since they're not a usable item. Restoring a save state in Dolphin after saving the game will no longer cause a "not the same memory card" error. Holding Z on controller 3 will fast-forward the game. Tip: bind this to a spare button on your gamepad in Dolphin. Improved memory management to increase stability.

From the PDA menu, you can access several debug functions most of which are added by the patch.
